The New Yorker

Just an old commission I found in my archives. The original was done in pencil, ink and watercolor. It's a parody of The New Yorker's famous first cover. But instead of a snooty aristocrat, I made him a chimpanzee. I forget why exactly, but I'm sure it was very funny to me at the time. So there!

A fun piece of art, Mr. Sowd. The expression on Mr. Chimp's face really sells the piece.

I am curious what exactly is going on in the background, below and to the right of your signature. Are those clouds, or perhaps easy to draw birds? I am lacking in both culture and couth, so perhaps those lines are a New Yorker cover tradition, which I would know about if I'd grown up in a household that read something besides the Weekly World News and Archie comics.

They are stylized clouds like in the orignal.

Don't worry about culture, Fred. It's overrated. Which, now that I think of it, was the point I was trying to make at the time!
